New on Knowre Math for the 2021-2022 School Year

With the start of the 2021-2022 school year approaching, we are thrilled to announce a number of exciting curricular enhancements to the grade 1, 6 and Algebra 2 curricula on Knowre Math. As a comprehensive supplemental resource for math, we are constantly striving to expand topic coverage and improve the overall student math learning experience.

As always, these developments are the direct result of administrator, teacher and student feedback and questions. Our curriculum team of former teachers has been hard at work to ensure this update meets your needs and goals.

You can expect to see these curricular updates on Knowre Math in early August!

Updates to Algebra 2

The update to Algebra 2 includes expanded coverage into the following topic areas:

  • Quadratic Inequalities
  • Properties of Logarithms (Product, Quotient, and Power Properties of Logarithms and Change of Base Formula)
  • Transformations of Logarithmic Functions
  • Natural Logarithms
  • Trigonometry (Special Right Triangles, Trigonometric Ratios, Angles of Rotation, The Unit Circle, Sine, Cosine, and Tangent Functions, Trigonometric Identities
  • Probability (Factorials, Permutations and Combinations, Mutually Exclusive, Independent, and Dependent Events, Two-Way Tables)
  • Statistics (Measures of Center and Spread, Populations, Samples, and Bias, Binomial Distributions, Normal Distributions)

We’ve heard from many of our teachers that these topics are also covered in their Pre-Calc classes so please consider sharing this update with your Pre-Calc teachers as well.

Additional curriculum updates mean that lessons are now shorter and more targeted. This should help students' ability to complete a lesson in one session and will likely also help as you select the lessons you’d like students to work on based on what is currently being covered in class.

Updates to Grade 6

Most of the updates that you’ll see within the grade 6 curriculum were done to improve student concept development. This is achieved through the inclusion of more interactive problem types, as well as virtual manipulatives.

See below for a couple of examples of these new hands-on problem types:

  • Drag and Drop - used to model integers with Algebra tiles, add integers, subtract integers and model variable expressions.

  • Bar Models for solving one-step equations

  • Data Visualization - students solve problems by creating dot plots, box plots and histograms.

Updates to Grade 1

Student engagement in math learning is critical at all grade levels. For our younger learners we’ve enhanced engagement through the introduction of new, more hands-on problem types that support skill visualization and independent practice.

Here are a couple of examples of some of the new problem types:

  • Selectable numbers - student selects numbers by clicking in order, for example, by selecting parts of a number sentence or part of a number bond that is the total.

  • Selectable tiles - students can click on tiles to highlight them in order to measure an object.

  • Number charts - some problems include number charts with selectable squares which supports the student when solving counting problems.

  • Connecting the dots - these problems ask the user to connect dots in order to count forward or backward.

Additionally, questions have been added into the grade 1 curriculum to address the following skills:

  • Ordering numbers
  • Creating 2-D shapes
  • Ordering sets
  • Ordinal numbers
  • Calendar
  • Patterns

Keypad Movability

One additional change that you’ll see is that the keypad can now be found on the bottom right hand side of the screen, instead of under the answer box. You can also now click and drag this keypad around on each question to exactly where you’d like it.

Since the keypad is now on the right side, the video and Walk Me Through supports have moved to the left side. This ensures that the problem is never covered by the supports or the keypad, which should make reading and solving problems a little bit easier.
